Heated Water Bottle DFM

As part of my ME170 (Computer-Aided Design) course, I led a team consisting of myself and three of my peers through the complete mechanical design and documentation of a heated water bottle intended for manufactured production, applying design-for-manufacture (DFM) principles from early concept development. I coordinated the technical direction of the project and contributed heavily to a 30-page engineering report that consolidated our research, design decisions, and manufacturing analysis into a single, production-oriented document.

I was responsible for the CAD, DFM optimization, and full engineering drawing package of the product’s mechanical lid assembly, producing detailed part and assembly drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards. These included section views, exploded assemblies, motion animations, and tolerance analyses of critical features. Additionally, I authored the project’s Bill of Materials (BOM), documenting materials, manufacturing methods, fully burdened per-part costs, and total production and capital investment estimates derived from aPriori. This project strengthened my ability to translate design intent into clear, production-ready documentation while balancing performance, cost, and manufacturability.
